The ArtistBarbara Gamble is a respected professional artist and cultural and community advocate. Born in Ontario, she grew up in the Maritime provinces, lived in the US and Europe, and settled in Ottawa in 1968. Barbara began her art studies in the 1970’s. She continued to paint and study art while self-employed producing cultural events. After obtaining an award winning BFA, she committed to a full time art practice in the 1990’s.
From urban to wilderness settings the Canadian landscape has been the artist’s subject for many years. Her oil painting process involves the multi-layering of colored waxes, creating luminous surfaces and ephemeral interpretations of nature.
Barbara’s artwork has been shown in galleries across Canada and in the US. Recently the Canadian Museum of Nature presented a large solo exhibition of her work titled, Barbara Gamble:Natural Affinities.
She has served on numerous boards, committees and art juries. Her work is collected by public, corporate and private institutions and represented in several commercial galleries.
